Hey everyone, it’s mid-October and we’ve officially started Halloween season. There are so many Halloween and costume themed events going on from now until the big day. You won’t mind spending some money on a costume since you can wear them more than once now. Here are some Halloween events in Northern Virginia and DC that’s more for mom and dad date night or family fun for those with older kids who don’t want to go trick or treating.
1. Fields of Fear™ at Cox Farms, Friday and Saturday nights, September 21-November 3, 2018, plus Sunday, October 7th, 7:30 PM – 11:00 PM
The critters come out at night at Cox Farms’ Fields of Fear™. There will be over 20 acres of fear at this event! There’s Cornightmare cornmaze, the Dark Side Hayride, The Forest: Back 40 (walking half a mile through the dark woods filled with chainsaws, spider and whatever scares you). There’s also other entertainment like bonfires, karaoke, dance party and much more. Food will be available to keep you at Cox Farms all night. Not Recommended for children under 12 years old. All under age 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian (18+). Ticket prices vary.

2. Ghost Bar Cinema: Halloween Fest at the Workhouse Arts Center, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, October 2018, 7:00 PM – 11:00 PM*
Halloween Fest at Ghost Bar Cinema is at the former Lorton Penitentiary, now known as the Workhouse Arts Center. Ghost Bar Cinema will host a screening of some Halloween movies. There will be a Madhunters Haunted Trail, paintball arena and an escape room. Food trucks, concession stand and there’s even a bar for those that want to party harder. You can buy your Trail and Escape room tickets online. Movie tickets are free and there’s no cover charge for the bar. This is an outdoors venue so be sure to dress appropriately.
*Facebook hours show 7:00 PM – 11:00 PM but their website states that “movies start around 7pm on scheduled days and run until around midnight.”

3. Zombie Escape at Carlyle House Historic Park, Friday, October 26th, 6:30 PM – 10:00 PM
The Zombie Apocalypse is upon us. DC has fallen and Alexandria too. You and your group have volunteered to leave the safety of your barricaded hotel to do a supply run. Will you make it back to your base safely while wading your way through a zombie infested area? This game scenario sounds so fun and scary. I know a lot of people who would love to participate. Purchase tickets ($30 online, $40 at the door) for this highly popular event. Seriously, do it now. A lot of the event slots have already been wait listed.

4. Night of the Living Zoo, sponsored by Groupon at Black Cat, Friday, October 26th, 7:00 PM – 10:30 PM
Finally, some time at the National Zoo without the kiddos…anyone’s kiddos. Night of the Living Zoo is strictly a 21-years-old and over only event. Enjoy craft beer (responsibly!), food truck fare, costume contest and live entertainment and performers. Purchase tickets online.

5. JunkFood LIVE @ DC101/Elliot In The Morning’s Halloween Bash at Clarendon Ballroom, Friday, October 26th, 8:00 PM – 1:00 AM (Doors open at 6:00 PM)
Have fun and possibly win $$$! 6. Eighties Mayhem an 80’s Halloween Dance Party at Black Cat, Saturday, October 27th, Doors open at 9:00 PM
Been practicing the choreography to Thriller all year? The Eighties Mayhem at Black Cat will be your chance to show off those moves. The entire Black Cat will be taken over for this event (2 floors and 3 rooms) with a different theme for each room. Costumes are encouraged and be sure to buy your tickets in advance since last years event was sold out!

7. Halloween House Party Kid N Play & Biz Markie Live at The Hyatt Regency Hotel, Saturday, October 27th, 8:00 PM – 2:00 AM
If you’re more of a 90’s kid and hip hop & rap, go and see Kid N Play and Biz Markie live at the Hyatt for Halloween. The entertainment includes, arcade games, karoke, Old School Candy Counter, photo booths, DJ & Dancing. “Two Rooms of Entertainment: Room 1 – DJ Spinning Hip-Hop, R&B, Reggae, House & More.” While room 2 will have “Live Band Playing R&B / DJ spinning Afro Beats, Caribbean”.

8. Halloween Fun Run at Fleet Feet-DC, Wednesday, October 31st, 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM
If you don’t want to be home giving out candy for Halloween and would rather be out being active, Fleet Feet-DC’s Halloween Fun Run is for you. Join them for a 3-mile fun run and be sure to bring your reflective gear and lights.

9. Halloween Dance Soiree at the Embassy of France, Wednesday, October 31st, 7:00 PM (Soiree with Lessons) / 8:30 PM (Soiree only) – 10:30 PM,
If you imagine yourself as more of an elegant lord or lady rather than a goblin or with this Halloween, then a night at the French Embassy is for you. Learn the Tango, Viennese Waltz and Salsa while also enjoying French wine and Parisian desserts (cash bar). The event hosts encourage you to reserve tickets early since space is limited for this event. Costumes are highly encouraged or cocktail attire suggested.

10. Wizard Fest: Halloween Party at Union Stage, Wednesday, October 31st, 8:00 PM (Doors open at 7:00 PM)
Pop Up Party Tours, Union Stage and Wizard Fest is hosting a Harry Potter themed Halloween party. Costume contest with cash prizes and goodie bags for the best dressed.
