September 29 is National Coffee Day and a lot of retailers are offering free coffee or rebates through apps (here’s a National Coffee Day Deals Article from USA Today). Usually, I don’t pay attention to National Coffee Day because every day was coffee day for me. Ahhh, how I loved (and still do) Starbucks White Chocolate Mocha. I didn’t care if my Venti had 530 calories or 69 grams of carbs. I had to have it at least once a week or twice or more.
Now that we’re on Keto, I’ve stayed away from Starbucks. Many beautiful Pinterest pins and Instagram pics are dedicated to people touting the Keto friendliness of Starbucks. I’ve tried those pretty pink drinks. Unfortunately, the taste of Fruity Flower and heavy cream is not something I look forward to, no matter how Instagram worthy the drink may be. I’ve also tried to come up with my own recipes for ordering a Keto friendly drink but nothing lives up to the original white mocha.
With 4 Sugar Free syrup options (Cinnamon Dulce, Hazelnut, Vanilla and Mocha), you’d think it would be possible to come up with a delicious recipe but I just don’t want to be that girl who orders 4 pumps of Sugar Free Vanilla, 2 pumps of Sugar Free Mocha, 2 Splenda’s, half heavy cream and half water, no milk (this is the best recipe I could come up with). I try to be the “order from the menu, no substitutions” kind of girl. You know, laid back and chill. Unfortunately, Keto requires some substitution most of the time.
Now, to the happy portion of this post. I’ve started saving lots of money from not going to Starbucks or other coffee houses but rather, indulging at home. The brand Torani makes an excellent Sugar Free White Chocolate Syrup. But I recently found a much cheaper option from Jordan’s Skinny Syrup’s. Sugar free and lots of different flavors. My favorite is, you guessed it, White Chocolate Mocha.
I was ordering from my favorite Online Retailer of Everything but then I went to Tuesday Morning for the very first time and saw that they carried it there. And for $3.99 a bottle, I bought enough to last me a year…well, maybe not a year, but the rest of this year maybe. Bonus find at Tuesday Morning was the Jordan’s Skinny Foam Topping. A word of caution, the syrups and foams that I’ve tried are very potent. A little goes a long way. Also, look at the ingredients list and see if any of those items affects you. Sucralose is listed as an ingredient in some of the items and it had a slight affect on my blood glucose.
I wasn’t going to do a recipe on this because I’m sure you know how to make coffee. But for those who don’t, here goes:
1. Brew your coffee. I use my Keurig and choose the largest serving size option for a not so strong coffee flavor.
2. Pour a tsp of sugar Free syrup of your choice (as I said these are strong) but pour however much you like.
3. Add 2 tbsp heavy cream if you like it creamy. Or add more or don’t add any at all.
4. Optional: Add Skinny foam. I don’t use this every time since I really enjoy the white mocha flavor on its own. Customize away.
By the way, these go great with my Keto Chocolate Chip Cookies.
If you want to indulge in something ultra sweet, go and get your Jordan’s Skinny Syrup now. Have you tried these? Tell me what you think in the comments. I’d love to hear from you.
